In today’s world, sustainability is more than just a word; it’s a responsibility we all share. At Trenor Coats and Gowns Ltd, we take that responsibility very seriously, it is a core value that guides our operations. We are committed to delivering top-quality laundry services while minimising our environmental footprint.

Join us as we explore the various ways in which our laundry facility is leading the way in sustainable laundry practices. In this article, we will also provide you with our top tips to help you integrate green practices and reduce your carbon footprint, in your everyday laundry routine.

Let’s dive in!

  1. Use of Energy-Efficient Equipment:

One of the cornerstones of our sustainability efforts is our use of energy-efficient laundry equipment. We have invested in state-of-the-art, energy-efficient laundry machines that reduce consumption without compromising on quality, designed to use less water, electricity, and detergent while still delivering impeccable cleaning results. By reducing energy consumption, we also decrease greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a healthier earth.

2. Environmentally friendly detergent:

Most conventional detergents are made up of some chemicals which can be harmful to the environment. For example, some detergents contain surfactants which help remove dirt. However, they are also highly toxic to aquatic life because it breaks down the mucus layer that covers fish and protects them from parasites. At Trenor, we only use environmentally friendly detergents, and stain removers from natural alternatives such as lemon juice, baking soda and vinegar.

We collaborate with our suppliers to source products and materials that align with our sustainability goals. This includes selecting suppliers who prioritize eco-friendly manufacturing. We believe that clean laundry doesn’t have to cost the environment. That’s why we’ve carefully selected eco-friendly detergents and cleaning agents that are biodegradable and free from harmful chemicals.

3. Cold Water Washing:

At Trenor, our commitment to sustainable and effective clothing care extends to our washing practices. Unless a hot water wash is specified on the clothing care label, we use cold water (30 °C) to wash. This not only conserves energy by avoiding the need to heat water but also helps preserve the colours and fabrics of your clothing. Lower temperatures are also more beneficial when lifting stains and improving the longevity of clothing.

Did you know that a 30-degree wash saves an average of 38% energy in a typical wash cycle? we are proud to offer you a clothing care solution that not only extends the life of your wardrobe but also contributes to a more sustainable future.

4. Water Treatment and Conservation with Responsible Disposal:

We prioritize responsible water management to address the environmental impact of commercial laundry operations. We ensure that all wastewater generated on our premises undergoes thorough treatment and filtration. Our commitment to sustainable water practices goes beyond treatment. We have integrated water-saving technologies into our laundry processes, designed to minimize water consumption. An example is the use of “high efficiency” (HE) washers. High-efficiency washers are designed to use less water compared to traditional machines. They achieve this by using a different washing mechanism that relies on tumbling and the use of concentrated detergent, which requires less water to work. We are also very diligent in equipment maintenance to prevent problems such as leakages.

We are proud to be part of the responsible cycle of water use with the well-structured sewage system of the University of Ghana for wastewater disposal. By doing so, we contribute to the proper and environmentally sound disposal of treated wastewater, ensuring it seamlessly integrates into a reliable sewage system. We firmly believe in the importance of mindful water usage and are dedicated to minimizing water waste in every aspect of our laundry operations.

5. Airdrying Culture:

This eco-friendly practice not only aligns with our commitment to sustainability but also yields significant benefits for both the garments and the environment. We recognize that too much conventional machine drying exposes garments to high temperatures and mechanical stress, which can result in premature wear and tear.

By opting for air drying, we prioritize the preservation of fabrics, allowing them to retain their strength, colour, and texture for extended periods. This fabric-friendly approach not only enhances the lifespan of your clothing but also reduces our energy consumption which minimizes our carbon footprint, fostering a greener laundry process.

6. We repair

At Trenor, our commitment to sustainability goes beyond traditional laundry practices. We proudly offer mending services as an integral part of our operations, and this commitment contributes significantly to our sustainability goals. By repairing and restoring clothing items for our customers, we help extend the life of garments, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This not only saves our customers money but also reduces the environmental impact associated with the production and disposal of new clothing. This is our way of promoting the culture of reducing, reusing, and recycling by breathing new life into clothing.

Our commitment to sustainability not only benefits the environment but also our valued customers:

Tips for Sustainable Laundry at Home

We believe in empowering our customers to make sustainable choices even outside our facility. Here are some tips for sustainable laundry practices at home:

  • Use cold water for washing as much as possible to save energy.
  • Wash full loads to maximize efficiency.
  • Air dry instead of using a dryer.
  • Choose eco-friendly detergents with biodegradable ingredients.

We are proud to actively contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our laundry practices align with several key SDGs, including Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) through responsible water management, Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly detergents, and Goal 13 (Climate Action) by minimizing our carbon footprint through energy-efficient methods like air-drying. By focusing on sustainability at every step of our process, we are dedicated to helping to build a more environmentally conscious and socially responsible world while delivering excellent laundry services to our valued customers.
